Course Outline

  • Autodesk AutoCAD Overview and Drawing
    • AutoCAD User Interface: Familiarize with the layout, functions of various menus, toolbars, the command line and the ribbon.
    • Drawing Grid and Limits: Configure and utilize the grid for precision drawing, setting drawing limits as a boundary for the drawing space.
    • Drawing Basic Objects: Learn to draw basic geometric shapes including lines, rectangles, circles and ellipses.
  • Select and Modify Objects
    • Selection Techniques: Mastering the use of different selection methods such as pick, window, crossing, fence, etc.
    • Basic Modification Commands: Introduction to fundamental editing commands to move, rotate, erase, copy and mirror objects.
    • Advanced Modification Tools: Learn to alter objects with more complex commands like offset (for creating parallel lines), array (for duplicating objects in a pattern), trim (for cutting objects) and fillet (for rounding corners).
  • Lines, Polylines and Arcs; Drawing Aids
    • Creating Lines and Polylines: Detailed instruction on generating straight and curved line segments, converting lines to polylines and vice versa.
    • Joining and Editing Polylines: Techniques for combining separate lines into a single polyline and editing them.
    • Drawing Arcs: Creating arcs based on various parameters like start point, end point, center, radius and angle.
    • Utilizing Drawing Aids: Implementing drawing aids such as Ortho Mode for horizontal or vertical lines and Object Snap for precision point selection on objects.
  • Object Properties Skills
    • Layer Management: In-depth handling of layers, creating new layers, toggling visibility and understanding the importance of layer organization.
    • Assigning Objects to Layers: Assigning and reassigning objects to specific layers and manipulating their properties.
    • Controlling Layer Properties: Modifying layer attributes including color, linetype and lineweight to adhere to drafting standards.
  • Presenting the Drawing
    • Title Blocks and Borders: Designing standardized title blocks and setting up drawing borders for various paper sizes.
    • Dimensioning Techniques: Applying dimensions to objects and understanding associative vs. non-associative dimensions.
    • Creating and Customizing Dimension Styles: Setting up dimension styles for consistency across different drawings and projects.
  • Working on Projects
    • Creating Product Design Drawings: Step-by-step creation of a detailed product design drawing, including all necessary views and dimensions.
    • Developing a Simple Floor Plan: Drafting a simple architectural floor plan, integrating layers, dimensions and text to produce a clear and accurate layout.
